Book
Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Set in a small, remote community in rural Tennessee in the years between the two world wars, "The Orchard Keeper" is an early classic from one of America's finest and most celebrated authors. It tells of John Wesley Rattner, a young boy, and Marion Sylder, an outlaw and bootlegger who, unbeknownst to either of them, has killed the boy's father. Cormac McCarthy's debut novel is a magnificent evocation of an American landscape, and of a lost American time. "The feeling for the land and seasons is so intense as to be part of the story and there are scenes one will never forget .A complicated and evocative exposition of the transience of life" - "Harper's". "A true American original" - "Newsweek". The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

scarce edition, 1985. first novel by the acclaimed writer of postapocalyptic and western tales. set during the inter-war period in tennessee, "the orchard keeper" follows three characters: an old man, a younger man, and a boy. as orville prescott wrote in his 1965 new york times review: "each, in his different way, is a rebel, a rugged individualist and a lone wolf." orville deemed mccarthy's debut "an exasperating book." but, he contended "but the wonder is that in spite of [this] it is also an impressive book.".

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. The Orchard Keeper, Suttree & Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. First printing of the omnibus edition by Quality Paperback Bookclub, which is a division of Vintage. This edition is very hard to track down in its own right. This is the only known signed copy. . This copy signed to Blanco under the first title in the collection, The Orchard Keeper. This is quite a unique item not only because it was very rare for Cormac to sign a softcover volume, but also because this edition is not as easy to find as the other softcover editions. Also take into account, this edition contains Cormac s (for some) magnum opus, Blood Meridian, as well as two of his other most desirable titles! An absolutely fabulous piece and very unique. I wonder how many of these exist signed? . Book in VG condition with some soiling throughout especially to the text blocks. There is a small closed tear to the bottom left front wrap, which has a small piece of tape to the verso. There is very little wear to the spine and very little bow to the book as typically seen with a large volume. It s likely been read sparingly, but I can take more photos if needed. . Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. The Orchard keeper by Cormac McCarthy. First UK printing. Authors first novel, and winner of the Faulkner award. The pictures do not do justice to what great condition this book is in. There is some slight foxing to the top block some overall handling wear but given its age I would call it fine/fine. I have been told that the UK edition is way scarcer than the US printing, either way the dust jacket blows the US edition away. . An excerpt of this novel, Cormac s first, were published in the Spring 1965 edition of the Swanee Review under the title Dark Waters. This novel would go on to win the Pen/Faulkner award and would be the only book published by Random House that would get a second printing. . Advance issue of the author's first book. Despite a strong following among literary cognoscenti, McCarthy remained obscure for years until he finally left Random House in the late 1980s and Knopf's publicity department helped propel him into the first rank of American authors with *All the Pretty Horses*.
