Linda Bailey is an award-winning author of many books for children, including Goodnight Sweet Pig, Stanley's Party, the Stevie Diamond Mysteries, and the Good Times Travel Agency series. She lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Bill Slavin is an award-winning children's book illustrator with over 50 books to his credit. His works include Stanley's Party and The Bear on the Bed He lives in Millbrook, Ontario.

Gr. 3-6. In the sixth offering from the Good Times Travel Agency series, the Binkerton kids find themselves transported back in time to southern France during the Ice Age. As they discovered on previous trips, the only way to return to the present is to read the guidebook they were given. The tale is presented on two parallel tracks: the first, a cartoon narrative about the kids' adventures; the second, the pages of a yellowed guidebook, which notes facts about Ice Age people, animals, tools, social life, hunting, music, language, and more. Readers will enjoy Bailey's breezy style, which remains light even as it delivers information; there's even occasional humor. Slavin's colorful illustrations clarify the details and add to the appeal. An afterward distinguishing fact from fiction rounds out a good introduction for young readers. Kay Weisman
