From Booklist:
Gr. 4-6. Nicolson offers an overview of genetics and cloning in this jazzy-looking book from the Mysterious You series. Without developing any one topic in great depth, she introduces the breadth of this timely subject, including discussions of Gregor Mendel, inherited traits, cell and chromosone structure and division, Crick and Watson, DNA evidence, genetic mutations, the cloning of animals, and several kinds of promising gene therapies. There is a short introduction to the controversy surrounding human cloning. Nicolson has a knack for finding interesting details and sidelights that illustrate the main points without dry explication. Her explanations of scientific concepts are brief, but surprisingly clear. Though sometimes comical or downright goofy, Cowles' paintings have a lively, informal air that helps make the subject of genetics more accessible to young people. Carolyn Phelan
