From Publishers Weekly:
Malone delivers the shortcuts that her title promises, but they are not for first-time quilters. The author (1001 Patchwork Designs, etc.) streamlines some traditional patchwork designs by breaking down each pattern or block into repetitive elements that can be sewn in strips, then cut, turned and pieced to create the design. The guide is replete with examples of geometric shapes as well as curved pattern elements. Also included are instructions for backing whole quilts or blocks by machine, and finishing, and patterns and tips for quilt-top stitching. These are helpful hints for experienced needleworkers who want their work to closely resemble classic designs but do not want to spend months painstakingly piecing together scraps of fabric. Malone advises against using worn fabrics that will disintegrate, noting that most enduring antique quilts were used on rare occasions. The guide includes small color plates of traditional designs and black-and-white drawings of shortcut patterns. BOMC/Cooking & Crafts Club and Better Homes and Gardens Crafts Club selections.
