On the eve of the Second World War, as German armies gather to invade Poland, Hitler has hit upon a master plan to distract the British while the blitzkrieg takes place. A German archeologist from Dahrein, Otto Muller, who has just made a sensational discovery, is summoned to Berlin.

In Dahrein, the Spanish-held port on the gulf, Gavin Kane, an American trader, and Ruth Cunningham embark on a search to find Ruth’s husband, an archeologist who has disappeared in the desert while on a quest to find the long-lost temple of Sheba. With little to go on but the ancient testament of a Greek adventurer, Alexias, the only survivor of a Roman expedition of 24 BC, Kane and Cunningham venture into the inhospitable Empty Quarter, the Rubh al Khali, a region of outlaws, treachery and death.

Calling on all their reserves of cunning and ingenuity to survive the deserts and its denizens, they are drawn inexorably onwards by the overwhelming allure of Sheba. When they finally reach their destination, they stumble upon a conspiracy that could have devastating consequences for the world.

Inspired by one of his early novels, now long out of print, Sheba has all the hallmarks of a vintage Higgins thriller.

About the Author:
Since The Eagle Has Landed―one of the biggest-selling thrillers of all time―every novel Jack Higgins has written has become an international bestseller. He has had simultaneous number-one bestsellers in hardcover and paperback, and many of his books have been made into successful movies, including The Eagle Has Landed, To Catch a King, On Dangerous Ground, Eye of the Storm, and Thunder Point. He has degrees in sociology, social psychology, and economics from the University of London, and a doctorate in media from Leeds Metropolitan University. A fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and an expert scuba diver and marksman, Higgins lives in Jersey on the Channel Islands.
From Publishers Weekly:
In this slick archeological thriller, Higgins (The Eagle Has Landed) reaffirms his skill as a storyteller. In 1939, with the world on the brink of war, American Arabist Gavin Kane is hired to find a missing husband. The missing husband, John Cunningham, disappeared while on a wild goose chase through the Middle East in search of the legendary Temple of Sheba. The Temple turns out to be all too real. And, unfortunately for Kane and his friends, the Nazi's have discovered the Temple first and are using it as headquarters to implement Hitler's plan to destroy the Suez Canal. The mixture of archeology and Nazism, naturally brings to mind Indiana Jones and, in fact, the book is very reminiscent of those movies. This is the kind of story where all the villains have German accents, and the heroes can survive a 30-mile hike in the desert with no water. Who cares if the characters are one-dimensional stereotypes (the dashing archeologist, the mysterious beautiful woman)? This fast-paced story has enough action and adventure to make up for any such shortcomings.
