From School Library Journal:
Kindergarten-Grade 2-- A delightful story that breaks through age and gender role stereotyping with a gentle, yet lively presentation. Mr. Duncan, a paint supplier, and his family live a quiet, routine life in the Pocono Mountains. Serena Katz, his best customer, is a salesperson at a New York City hardware store. The telephone sales conversations have led to a good friendship, which results in an invitation to the Duncans to come experience the Big Apple. But word gets out in their home town, and it seems that everyone has heard of Serena Katz. That is, the Serena Katz who jumps over buses on her motorcycle, or the Serena Katz who pulls gerbils out of people's ears, or the wedding cake creator, or the lion tamer, or champion pool player. Surely, they can't be talking about the same small, elderly woman. The Duncans proceed to New York, where their friend sends them out on the town, avoiding their questions until the last night of their visit, when she admits that she is indeed Krazy Katz, the Katz Meow. The watercolor illustrations are vibrant and inviting, and the characters are natural. Thumbs up on this one. --Denise L. Moll, Lone Pine Elementary School, West Bloomfield, MI
